Today is the memorial slated to be one of the largest celebrity memorials in history. Most huge networks will be broadcasting it live. There will be several live streaming sites on the Internet as well where it’s estimated that more than a billion people will be tuning in to bid their farewells to this mega superstar.
I remember when I was about six or so, I was watching MTV at my aunt’s house and Thriller came on. Back then, Michael morphing into a werewolf scared the living daylights out of me. My parents always played his music though, so I grew up knowing the Thriller album as well as Off the Wall and Bad.
This past weekend, my family and I took a road trip to south Texas and on our journey; my mom and I watched Michael Jackson videos on my portable DVD player. We listened to his music in the car and we bought Michael Jackson stuff in the malls down there. It was all sort of a makeshift memorial of our own; a tribute of sorts.
I’ll never forget the death of this icon; neither will my dad since it all transpired on his birthday.
Gone too soon…but the King of Pop will live on.
Have you ever taken a whiff of someone’s cologne/perfume and the mere scent took you back to a distant memory you thought you’d long forgotten? It happens to me from time to time when I pass someone on the street or at my grocery store. Actually, a specific flowery perfume reminds of my time at Fragonard in France many years ago.
